Condition
Reporting on the condition of a tree is important because it will inform you on where you may need to focus future efforts in maintenance and replacement. Noting a tree's condition will also allow you to look into whether certain genera are fairing better than others, or if you suspect some type of pest or disease is attacking your trees. See the table from Purdue's Cooperative Extension site.
There are many factors to take into account when determining a tree's condition that could be reported on but an overall basic condition rating of Good, Fair, Poor, Dead/Almost Dead works just fine. If you are having problems with determining a tree's condition or choosing a system for classing your trees consulting with an expert or arborist will help. Anything beyond a simple condition rating will require professional attention.
